March Empties!

I’ve decided to do smaller empties posts more often instead of having to talk about so many products in one most. Over the past month or so I’ve used up a good mix of makeup and non-makeup items. Here’s what I’ve used up!

Hempz Treats Delicious Body Lotion in Sugar Lemon Squares: I found this at TJ Maxx awhile back and it smelled absolutely amazing! I’m a sucker for lemon scents so it was a no brainer for me to get this. It was a nice body lotion though. It was thick and moisturized really nicely.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Toner: I wanted to like this product so badly but it just didn’t do much for me. My skin works best with salicylic acid so since this didn’t have that ingredient, it just didn’t work out.

Up & Up Eye Makeup Remover: I’m not picky when it comes to eye makeup remover. This stuff works great and I’ll probably use it again in the future.

Bath & Body Works “Paris Amour” Fragrance Mist: I’m more of a perfume gal over fragrance mist anymore but this scent was nice. My sister actually gave this to me because she thought it was too sweet but I enjoyed the sweetness. I probably wouldn’t use it again though.

Yes to Cucumbers Makeup Remover Wipes: They got cut out of the photo but you can see the corner of them there. I really enjoyed these wipes. They removed a lot of my makeup and didn’t irritate my skin. I’m trying to move away from makeup wipes for now but if I were to want some again I’d definitely get these again.

Physician’s Formula Lash Boosting Mascara: Another disappointing PF mascara. I love that these have natural ingredients and aren’t harming, but I have yet to have a PF mascara that does anything worthwhile to my lashes. I won’t be purchasing any more.

Benefit They’re Real Mascara: This is one of my favorite mascaras ever and if it wasn’t so expensive I’d have already repurchased it. I’ve talked about this mascara about a million times so I’ll just leave it at that.

Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation: I finished a foundation! I liked this one a lot. It was very lightweight but gave surprisingly good coverage and looked quite natural on the skin. I have found others that I enjoy more, however, so I won’t be repurchasing.

ELF Under Eye Concealer & Highlighter: I’m not a big fan of the highlighter side but I loved the concealer side. It covered and brightened my under eyes really well and made them look super awake. I might repurchase in the future.

ELF “Candid Coral” Blush: I finished a whole blush! Candid Coral is one of my favorite blush colors of all time. It is absolutely perfect for everyday and gives such a beautiful glow to the cheeks. I won’t be repurchasing anytime soon as I have so many other blushes, but I’d consider it in the future.

What products have you used up recently?

March 2014 Favorites!

I can’t believe another month has come and gone! This year is flying by so far! But, with another month past it’s time for another monthly favorites post. I switched up the products I used this month quite a lot but there were a handful of items that I really loved.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I have a whole cheek combo that I’ve been loving this month! First, my Wet n Wild Fergie Shimmer Palette in Rose Champagne Glow. I did a full review on this product but I’ve been loving it so much I wanted to give it another little shout out here. This is a beautiful subtle highlight that gives the most natural and pretty glow to the face. I love it so much. Next is the Pixi Subtly Suntouched Bronzer I got in an Ipsy several months ago. I don’t wear a whole lot of bronzer but this one is really nice on my fair skin. It doesn’t look muddy or orangey and it gives a subtle contour. It can also work well dusted all over the face for an all over glow. The final part of my cheek combo is the new Milani Matte Baked Blush in Bella Rosa. This blush is a super intense pinky red color. It is extremely pigmented and is very easy to go overboard with, but I apply it with a stippling brush and it gives the most natural looking flush to the cheeks. It might be in my top favorite blushes of all time!

I wore a ton of different lip products this month but the Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Gloss in Raspberry Reflections really stood out to me. It is a beautiful light orchid color that I think looks really nice on my skin tone. And the formula of these Maybelline glosses is amazing! They are so smooth and pigmented and feel so nice and comfortable on the lips. I just love it!

My last two favorites are two concealers. I couldn’t pick just one to talk about! The first is an oldie but a goodie, the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles. I’ve used this before in the past and have loved it so I decided to get another one a couple months ago and fell in love with it all over again. It is seriously one of the best concealers out there. It covers everything so well and blends into the skin beautifully. The second concealer is the Flower Brightening Concealer. I have a full review on this concealer but again, I just wanted to give it an extra shout out in my favorites. I only use this on my under eyes because the yellow tones in the concealer really helps to counteract the blue-ness of my dark circles. It covers really well and brightens the area just enough.

What products have have been loving the past month?

Uni VoxBox!

I took a a bit of an unexpected hiatus from blogging. I’ve been working so much recently and then on my day off when I planned on doing some blogging I had a stomach bug. But now I finally have some time to write some blog posts!

Today’s post is all about this month’s Uni VoxBox from Influenster. This box is geared towards college students and I was actually pretty impressed with some of the stuff they included.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The Uni VoxBox included three non-beauty items and three beauty items. The first non-beauty item in the box is a box of Playtex tampons. Not the most glamorous item to get but definitely a necessity. It’s nice to have so that I won’t have to go out and purchase some next time I need them. Next is an ink pen from Pilot. I personally love pens and this one writes really well. Nothing is worse than a pen that doesn’t write well so this is good to have. The last non-beauty item is a bottle of Red Rose flavor enhancing drops. You basically add a few drops of it to water and it flavors your water. The flavor I got is raspberry tea.

Now onto the beauty items! First up is a box of Broadway Nails ImPress press on manicure in a really pretty floral design (the name isn’t on the packaging anywhere so I’m not sure what it’s called). I actually tried these out as an accent nails and will have a NOTD posts talking more about them soon! Next up is the Rimmel Stay Matte Mousse Foundation. I was super excited to get this product! Ever since it came out there have been nothing but awesome reviews for it and I love a matte foundation! I’ll have a full review on this product soon as well! The last product in the box is an NYC Expert Last Lipstick in the shade “Forever Fuchsia.” I don’t love this lipstick but for how much it’s worth, I’m fairly impressed. The color is really bright and fun and it feels nice on the lips. It stays for a couple hours but then gets pretty patchy. But like I said, for how much it’s worth it’s a good product.

*I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.*

Did you receive a box from Influenster this month?

Review: Wet n Wild Fergie Shimmer Palette

I am all about highlighting my cheekbones. Highlighters might actually be my favorite makeup product. They are so pretty and can give the face such a beautiful glow! My recent hightlighter obsession is the Wet n Wild Fergie Shimmer Palette in the shade “Rose Champagne Glow.” When this first came out I didn’t think twice about it. I really had no interest in it. Then randomly one day I saw it in the store and was immediately drawn in. And the rest, they say, is history.

This product is part of Fergie’s Wet n Wild Centerstage Collection at Walgreen’s stores. There are three different shades of these shimmer palettes and they retail for $5.99 for 0.4 oz./11.3 g. Since this is a highlighting product, you won’t use very much product during each use so this will last a really long time.

These shimmer palettes are actually baked products that can be worn wet or dry. I’ve only ever tried it dry because wetting my brush is just too much of a hassle to do everyday.

In the pan this is an absolutely gorgeous product. It has a champagne base with pink and purple toned veining running through it. Just looking at it makes me happy!

This is a concentrated swatch to be able to really show you the color of it. It is a more champagne highlight with some warm, slightly rosy tones to it. I think it would look absolutely amazing on anyone. I find this to be an extremely wearable highlighter because when you blend it onto your cheekbones it’s rather subtle and gives a really nice, natural glow to your face. It adds the perfect amount of dimension back to your face if you use products that make your face look a little flat or too matte. This is my go-to everyday highlighter for how natural it looks.

L-to-R: The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer, Fergie, Hard Candy “Honeymoon” Baked Blush

I figured I’d throw in a little side-by-side comparison to the other two highlighters I own. This highlighter is the perfect middle ground color for the two I already own. The Balm’s Mary-Lou Manizer (retails for $24 for 0.3 oz./8.5 g) is a straight up champagne color. It is not subtle at all and gives a noticeable highlight to the cheeks. This is one of my favorite makeup products of all time. The Hard Candy Blush Crush Baked Blush in “Honeymoon” (retails for $7 for 0.28 oz/8 g) is actually marketed as a blush but blended out it’s much more of a highlighter. It is a cool toned pink color that gives a really nice and rather unique luminosity to the cheeks.

Out of the three, I would actually recommend the Fergie highlighter because it is the cheapest, you get the most product, and I think of the three colors, it would work on the most people. It’s not too subtle but it’s not super in your face either. Overall, this is an absolutely amazing highlighter that will add that little extra something to any makeup look!

What is your favorite cheek highlighter?

Vanity Makeover!

I have wanted a real vanity for awhile now. But since I have been living in student housing on a college campus for the past two and a half years it just didn’t make sense to ever get one. But then I moved back home and had my room with my own furniture I told my mom that I wanted one. And low and behold, she got me one for my birthday last week!

So since I have an all new set up for my makeup, I thought it would be fun to share a before and after of my vanity area. It is completely different now and I love it!

Before:

I had made a makeshift vanity from a super cheap desk I’ve had for several years. It has the keyboard pullout where I kept my notebook, planner, and a towel. I kept my makeup in three drawer containers from Wal-Mart. They are very functional but definitely not very cute. The pink one on top of the desk was perfect for my dorm room. For a chair I used a comfy but not aesthetically appealing office chair with my UT blanket sitting on top of course.

Overall, I made the space work but I really thought it was time for a more clean, put together and pretty place.

After:

Here she is! The vanity I got is called the Kendal Vanity Set. It is from Bed, Bath, and Beyond and you can see it here. My mom had originally gotten me a really pretty vanity from Target with the same kind of flip open mirror section but with a large side storage compartment instead of the two drawers on either side. However, after a horrible experience trying to put that one together (there were multiple defects AND two pieces missing) we returned it then went shopping around for a different one. And that’s when we found this one!

I really love it! The two drawers one either side are on the smaller side but they hold a surprising amount of stuff. And then of course the middle section which closes up can hold a ton of stuff. That is where I put my everyday products and then some extras that didn’t fit in either of the two drawers.

On top of my vanity I have my brushes, my small mirror, and a small box where I keep my palettes and towel for wiping my hands off. I also have my lamp and notebook and planner and a couple extra goodies I also had on my desk before.

So far I am very pleased with this vanity! It’s so pretty and functional. I can even use it as a desk if I flip the mirror down (which I’m actually doing right now to write this blog post). The amount of storage is good for me because I had have an insane amount of makeup, but for someone with more than what I have it probably wouldn’t be sufficient.

One of my favorite parts of the whole thing is probably the little stool it comes with! It’s so cute and perfect and it’s small enough to slide up under the table to get it out of the way. I just love it!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post and have liked taking a peak into my little makeup station!
